What does it mean when influential business and motivational coaches tell you to find your tribe? I always saw all of these women on Instagram collaborating and working together as I sat at home working on my business feeling very lonely. One day I entered into a business mentorship with three other women and my mentor. We were all business owners trying to find our way, working completely alone. After one year, we left that group with a ton of knowledge and lifelong (I hope!) friendships. The entire find your tribe mindset finally made sense to me...this group of ladies, we laughed together, cried together, shared our ups and our downs, and we GREW. I FINALLY understood the meaning of a tribe and I was sold.
One of the ladies I met was Brandi Bowman. Brandi is the Owner of Honey & Home, an online boutique focused on simple and chic gifts, home decor, and accessories. In addition, Brandi owns Movement Marketing where she creates websites for clients. I was so impressed by Brandi and I could tell immediately that her business trajectory would skyrocket upward in no time. I am so excited that I got to witness all of that growth. Over the years now, I have learned to appreciate Brandi so much that I lovingly call her my Biz BFF.
Brandi is well-known for her amazing hand-poured candle line for Honey & Home but she has recently expanded into offering so many other cute products. She has such a great eye for curating great products and her style is a whole mood. I know she has so many huge goals for this next year in her business and she is definitely a Babe to Watch! Plus, we may or may not be working on some really cool ideas together, but more on that later...
On that note, let's take some time to learn more about Brandi!

Why Did You Decide To Start Your Business?
I officially started Movement Marketing in 2015. Prior to that I was designing websites on the site of working another job and finishing my bachelors degree. I took an internship and realized that businesses were being taken advantage of by these big name marketing firms paying thousands for a product that just didn't deliver from a website stand point. I quickly realized I was in love with website design and could do it better. I take a very personal approach getting to know my clients + their business to infuse so much of them into the design, specializing in small businesses. Fast forward to 2018- my love for home décor + gifts, I realized that there was such a gap in the market for really cute, high quality items. So I filled the need, or at least tried to! I truly feel like the luckiest person in the world because while I work 24/7 I have never once felt like I have a "job". I am not someone who enjoys working under someone, I never have. I knew really early on in my life that I was destined to be working on my own, creating my own path.

What Is The Best Advice You Can Give to A Woman Starting Her Business Venture?
JUST DO IT! You have to believe in yourself. If you truly + honestly believe in yourself, it will not matter if anyone else does. Women are powerhouses, we get shit done once we make up our mind it's what we want.
What Is Something Most People Don't Know About You?
I have my cosmetology license. I did professional hair and makeup for 5 years, while going to college. I thought for sure I was going to be a salon owner. That was always the end goal.
What Does Your Typical Day Look Like?
My day starts early + with Golden Girls, coffee and my planner. I review the schedule for the day, make a task list and check all emails. With both businesses, I time block to make the most of each day! Routines play a major role in my sanity- for example Monday's are an admin day for both businesses, Tuesdays & Thursdays I pour candles for half of the day, leaving Wednesday and Friday open for whatever the week needs! I make dinner almost every night. I try to turn off my mind by 10 pm every night, which is more of a challenge than I am willing to admit!
Who Are Some Women That Inspire You? (Globally and Locally)
My mom. She is an independent badass. She has taught me so much about unconditional love, good manners and etiquette, and how to not take shit from anyone. Kris Jenner is another one because how do you take a sex tape and turn it into an empire. I mean, really it's a gift.
What Was One Huge Business Flop or Problem That You Had to Endure and How Did You Handle That?
I have dealt with A LOT of imitation- which is not the sincerest form of flattery. (I mean seriously, just send me a nice card next time). It really used to bother me- lots of tears, sleepless nights, etc. until one day a combination of words of wisdom for a mentor + self respect, it occurred to me if they are copying me it is because I am doing something right. It means I am ahead, and while they are focused on imitating something I am currently doing, I am already working on the next big thing. I make a very bold effort to be original in everything I do and I have the highest level of respect for people who work hard to forge their own path instead of replicating someone else.
What Accomplishment Are You Most Proud Of?
My businesses. I feel like they are my babies. I feel so much gratitude by being able to create my own path and work completely on my own in my 20's. I have worked hard to get here, but it is something I am grateful for every single day.
What Do You Do For Self Care?
I cook or bake! There is ALWAYS fresh baked goods in my house at all times. I am always trying new recipes. If I am really in need of self care- I shop. It is a mindless way to blow off steam and an activity I prefer to do solitary!
What Jobs Did You Work Before You Created Your Business? Tell Us Your Journey.
As mentioned, I was a licensed hair stylist and makeup artist for 5+ years. I traveled all over Michigan to work on site weddings. I loved it. I always knew I was meant to own a business owner, I just thought it was a hair salon. While I loved the clients & job itself, I did not enjoy the working environment. After moving away to finish my bachelors degree for business & hospitality management I temporarily worked in a hotel as territory sales manager for 3 months. I quickly realized I could make it on my own with my website design business, which grew into Movement Marketing. I then started Honey & Home 3 years later and truly have never felt so complete.
Give Us Five Fun Facts About You!
I have always hated cats and now I own a rescue cat. He thinks he is a dog and is truly the best decision I have ever made. Choice of music: EDM/Dance Music or Thanksgiving Day Radio. I know...one extreme to another. I have the biggest wrapping paper stash known to man. Accompanied with bows, ribbon and gift tags and organized by color scheme. Always prepared right? I could live solely off Gnocchi. I bar-tended at a Happy Hour bar in downtown Detroit on and off for 4 years. Absolutely loved it- the people, the scene, the drinks, everything.
What Sign Are You? Are You Into Astrology?
Aries. I am an Aries through and through. I am obsessed with astrology! True story- I have a book Sextrology (shameless plug- if you don't own it, you need to immediately). It talks about the sexes (male + female) of each sign in serious detail. I look up everyone, it's like the dictionary and bible of astrology all in one.
